Celebrating 10 years of evenito

The impossible has a strange habit of becoming completely normal over time. Exactly ten years ago, evenito consisted of a handful of people huddled around six desks in a small corner of a Zurich office. We brought our own laptops and ate our lunch standing up in the kitchen because there simply wasn't any room to sit. We were building an event tool and a company that hardly anyone had heard of back then. There was no established brand and no long list of enterprise clients. There was only an idea, a small group of people with a strong belief in that vision, and an ambition that was significantly larger than the company itself. Today, over 300 major enterprises and corporations trust us with their most important events.  

When the impossible becomes the norm

Today, our event management software supports more than 1,500 events per month and processes millions of registrations. We have supported one of the largest corporate events Switzerland has ever seen, seamlessly handling more than 70,000 registrations in the process. Our platform has powered events featuring personalities like Roger Federer. Major brands now use evenito as a matter of course to centrally manage their increasingly complex event programs. We go into enterprise pitches and compete against companies many times our size. And we are winning these tenders more and more often.  

Ten years ago, these milestones would have sounded almost illusory to us. When you are building a company, you rarely think about how far you have already come. You think about the next client, the next release, or the next problem you need to solve to make event planning even better. That is how extraordinary things quietly turn into everyday processes. Somewhere along this journey, many of the things we once thought were impossible simply became the norm.

Ten years of event management on a winding path

When we connect these milestones today, the journey looks much straighter than it ever actually was. Building evenito was defined by constant adjustments. We built products, discarded them, and built them again. We made bets, some of which paid off and some of which did not. We entered new markets, learned from mistakes, adapted, and tried again. Like any company that has survived a decade, we carry a few scars from this journey.

However, no phase tested our adaptability as much as the pandemic. For a company whose entire purpose revolves around real human encounters, it was hard to imagine a more fundamental disruption. Almost overnight, people were no longer allowed to meet. What happened next remains, for me, one of the most remarkable chapters of these ten years. An entire industry had to reinvent what it means to bring people together. Out of necessity, virtual formats became an essential component of event management.

Technology has changed, but our need for connection has not

When the world opened up again, something fascinating happened. People returned to physical events with full force. While the technology for virtual events had become significantly better, physical gatherings have a meaning that technology alone can never replace. We want to shake hands, share a meal, and have that spontaneous conversation in the hallway.

From these intense years, we take with us several crucial lessons for the future:

• Digital tools should never replace human relationships; instead, they should break down barriers and create space for genuine encounters.
• By mastering complex planning hurdles and eliminating countless lists, we enable our clients to focus fully on creating unforgettable experiences.  
• Technological flexibility is essential to safely absorb spontaneous changes at any time.  
• The highest level of data security and certifications like ISO 27001 are the foundation for confidently scaling large-scale events.  

From automation to genuine encounter

We are currently experiencing another massive technological shift driven by artificial intelligence. Tasks in professional event planning that we considered purely human just a few years ago can now be automated with ease. Complex processes are silently disappearing into the background, and our professional reality is becoming increasingly digital and personalized. Does this mean physical event management is losing its significance? I am firmly convinced that the exact opposite is true. The more friction smart technology removes from our lives, the more valuable real human connection becomes.

The purpose of our event management software is therefore not to replace these precious moments. Instead, at evenito, we use smart tools to eliminate complexity and unnecessary lists. We free event managers from time-consuming tasks so they can master planning hurdles with confidence. They should be able to dedicate their valuable time entirely to what technology can never take over. We provide event managers with all the tools to automate planning processes, thereby creating space for the creative aspects of sustainable experiences.  

Built by people, for people

Beyond our fundamental need for community, there is another remarkable constant in our industry: the extraordinary people it attracts. Anyone who has worked closely with event professionals knows their incredible sense of responsibility. Thousands of details must merge into a perfect choreography on a specific day.

Over the last ten years, we have had the great privilege of working with exactly these people. Our customers have trusted us and consistently challenged us with ambitious ideas. This very passion is deeply rooted in evenito's corporate culture. Our success today is not based on a single brilliant breakthrough, but on thousands of seemingly small daily actions.

Looking ahead to 2036 and the next impossible thing

This willingness to continuously push boundaries defines the core of evenito. At our big anniversary celebration, I asked our team to imagine our company in the year 2036. We had a lot of fun forecasting future user numbers for our event tool. Ultimately, however, this exercise was not about exact predictions. It was about the right perspective. If I could return to our tiny 2016 office today and tell our team back then about today's reality, no one would likely believe me.

We are currently only scratching the surface of what technology can do for this industry. Artificial intelligence will fundamentally change the way we plan. Manual workflows that event teams have begrudgingly accepted for decades will disappear entirely. Data will flow much more freely, and experiences will become even more personal.

As we celebrate the tenth anniversary of evenito today, I feel two things above all else. I feel deep gratitude for every person who has believed in our vision. At the same time, I feel an enormous ambition for the future. I am grateful for our loyal partners and for a team that has carried this company through both simple and very difficult chapters.

Today’s reality was yesterday’s crazy dream. Here’s to the next impossible thing.
